SAVANNA GOAT: The white Savanna goat breed was developed from indigenous goats of Southern Africa . In 1957, Cilliers and Sons along the Vaal river became the best known of the originators of this meat goat breed. On the rugged harsh bush country where temperatures and rainfall can vary to a marked extent, natural selection played a big role in the development of these fertile easy care, heat and drought resistant animals. These goats have thick pliable skins with short white hair. The Savanna has excellent reproduction, muscular development, good bone and strong legs and hooves. The goats are selected for totally black pigmented skin, horns, hooves and all bare skin areas which can be injured by strong ultra violate rays. The original Savanna importers in the United States maintained the natural selection development and continued the hardy meat goat breed. They noted that the half Savanna kid got up faster after birth and nursed quicker than their non-savanna goats. W3 Ranch has gathered a select group of full blood Savanna does and bucks from various Savanna breeders and is continuing the development of the Savanna breed. A limited number of Savanna Goats for Sale (bucks), fitting the standards of breed, will be available for sale in the near future.

A lot of folks in the goat industry have not heard of the African Savanna Goat breed and neither had we. What we found, was a muscular, well-developed goat, the does of which have excellent mothering abilities and the bucks are very proud and masculine. The savanna goats eat a myriad of plants, trees, shrubbery, and bushes. They are adaptable to a variety of unpleasant climates, including severe exposure to sun, cold and rain. They are therefore suited quite well in a number of climates in the United States , including here in Oklahoma. Savanna goats typically have short, white hair, developing a fluffy cashmere coat for additional warmth during the winter.
